Q:
It usually snows at my house at wolf laurel
before October 22. What happens to all the
decorations then????? Also most people up here dig
up their bulbs before the winter season starts and
replant in the early, early spring. What happens to
the 100 or so bulbs you plant now on the Nature
Trail, do you think they are going to survive the
below zero temps in the winter? Also has anyone
every noticed the natural beauty in the early
spring on the Nature Trail? Just wondering.A:
In judging the decorations, we will take into
consideration the effect of the weather (wind, rain,
snow) on any of the arrangements whether it is the
plants or the artificial decorations. We
realize that with any outside decoration that
weather elements can create a problem. By
allowing a later judging date (Oct. 22) this allows
those residents who may not arrive on the mountain
until the middle of the month to participate.
You can call to have your decoration judged prior to
Oct. 22. A notice will go out to all residents
to contact me if they wish to have their decoration
judged.
The bulbs that were planted on the Nature Trail were
hardy for zones 5 and 6 and do not need to be
removed for the winter. The recommended time
for planting is fall so that they can bloom in early
spring. We also enjoy the natural beauty of
the Nature Trail and think that daffodils,
tulips, and crocus add to that beauty.
